Your Perfect Ski Holiday to Italy

Italy ski holidays are relaxed, informal, hedonistic, fun – and just a little bit crazy. Of course, the Italians take their skiing seriously, but then they take their lunches, dinners, aperitivi and digestivi just as seriously too. Thus, ski holidays in Italy will always be as much about good food and drink, as it is about skiing and snowboarding.

Many Italians who are not skiers or boarders enjoy coming to the mountains in winter for the sunshine, the scenery, and the après ski. In fact, in Italian ski resorts such as Cortina d’Ampezzo, non-skiers are actually in the majority. However, this does not mean that Italy is not a good choice for the committed skier. On the contrary, there’s brilliant skiing in Italy for all types of skier, who will enjoy quieter pistes thanks to the non-skiers in town.

Italian ski resorts are a brilliant choice for families, with young children positively welcomed in ski hotels and restaurants. Grown-ups will not be disappointed by the après ski activity, which begins in the middle of the afternoon and continues well into the small hours.

There’s some great ski resorts in Italy including the incredible Dolomites ski area with 1,200 km of ski slopes. There’s also the highest ski resort in Italy, Cervinia, located in the wonderful Aosta Valley ski area. Whatever you are looking for, our experts are here to help with your ski holiday. The country is rich with exciting experiences, try your hand at dog sledding, tobogganing, or even ice skating. For a more relaxing activity in Italy, take a serene snow-shoe walk around the area, or truly unwind by visiting a tranquil wellness centre. One of our favourite activities is ‘sommelier on the slope’ in Alta Badia, a wine-tasting course on the mountains.

When it comes to après ski, Italy has a relatively sophisticated approach. Unlike its neighbours, France and Austria, the tipple at the end of the day is much quieter. As expected, Italy has a great range of wine bars and artisan cocktail spots, perfect for appreciating a hard-earned drink. The service is impeccable and the hospitality is totally friendly.
