It is always good to keep an eye on the snow conditions before you head out to the mountains. Depending on where you decide to book your ski holiday, the weather conditions are likely to differ. Whether you are checking the snow conditions in the Alps, or in North America, we will keep you up-to-date and in the know.

You may need that extra layer or two if you’re predicted heavy snowfall, or perhaps an extra bottle of sun cream if bluebird days are on the forecast. Best Resorts for Snow
Snow Report: France
France is home to some truly remarkable skiing, with resorts such as Val Thorens so confident in their conditions they have a ‘snow guarantee’, challenging people to find a European resort with better conditions. The Paradiski ski area is a snow sure region with lifts going as high as 3,225m, connecting a number of Europe’s best ski resorts, such as Les Arcs, La Plagne, and Peisey-Vallandry.

Austria’s Alps boast a long season with good conditions well into spring. The high altitude of many of the mountains brings about ideal snowy conditions, with the Hintertux glacier in Tirol offering a whopping 365 days of skiing a year. High ski areas that receive some of the best snow include Sölden and St. Anton, with Kitzbühel now running one of the world’s longest seasons.

Italian ski resorts have a reliable piste quality and there are many high-altitude resorts to choose between. Cervinia is one of the country’s most snow-sure ski resorts, with pistes reaching up to 3,883m on the Piccolo Cervino. Many of the the Italian ski resorts have brilliant artificial snow-making facilities, with some such as Cortina providing nearly 100% snow-making capabilities.

The dry snow that Norway experiences means the skiing is unique for Europe, far closer resembling the conditions of North America. Many areas are so confident of their snow quality, that they guarantee your lift pass and will refund you if conditions aren’t up to standard. The Nordic season is long, starting in November and lasting until late April.

Canada’s weather is born mainly in the Pacific, where storms brew but barely have a chance to draw breath before hitting the Coast Mountain range and Whistler Blackcomb, which boasts one of the greatest snow records in history. The rest of Western Canada receives heaps of fresh snow through winter; skiers will love the legendary champagne powder of British Columbia.

Great storms roll in from the Pacific and can dump metres of snow in one night across western resorts such as Heavenly and Palisades Tahoe, before moving east, over the high deserts of Nevada and Arizona, just in time to throw a blanket of fluffy powder over the Rockies, with Utah claiming to have the ‘Greatest Snow on Earth’. Ski resorts such as Winter Park get an average of 350 inches of snowfall each year.
