Hotel Walserhof

Silvia and Heribert Dietrich worked at Walserhof 21 years ago, back when it was owned by Gabi and Beat Bolliger. They now return as its managers, with an eye for quality and a sympathy for what makes this place so special. Rooms and public spaces have been refreshed and given a more modern feel - there are now only 2 doubles and 4 suites - but the use of well-chosen colours and pine retains the welcoming, homely atmosphere. The standard of food remains excellent.

Although the hotel is on the main road, bedrooms overlook hillside meadows and there are mountains on all sides; whichever you choose, you're guaranteed a fantastic view. The attention to detail downstairs is repeated upstairs, with comfortable beds and the careful mixing and toning of fabrics for curtains, wall coverings and bedspreads.

Each of the suites is named after a letter of the Runic alphabet. Colours are generally subdued: pine-green (Is. Personlichkeit) or cool slate-grey and beige (Wunjo. Friede) and the bathrooms - with café au lait marble, large mirrors and double wash-basins - are a delight. Large cupboards are good for families on winter holidays and the ski-school is only a minute away
