In January myself, Mark and Claire had the amazing opportunity to visit the charming French ski resort if La Clusaz. Staying in one of my favourite hotels Au Cœur du Village. With great skiing on offer, a reliable snow record, and a chocolate box village what’s not to love!

The pretty French village is centered around a lovely main square and set between five mountains. Despite being relatively spread out, it’s easy to walk around. The hotel we stayed at, Au Coeur du Village, has a great location by the beginner’s lift and ski school. In addition, the 220km of La Clusaz’s pisted slopes are well suited to beginners and intermediates, which makes it great for families. Additionally, between the five inter-linked ski areas there’s plenty of freeriding for advanced skiers.

Where to stay?

I stayed at the sumptuous Au Cœur du Village that has a lovely feel to it. Inside, furnishings are warm with typical Alpine woods and rooms are cosy. I found the hotel staff were very pleasant and the evening meal in the restaurant was delicious. We finished our evening in the impressive cheese cave. In addition, next to the children’s ski school and the easy skiing, it’s great for beginners and families. Free childcare is available for 4-year olds upwards from 5-8pm in school holidays.

Another option is the stylish St. Alban Hotel & Spa, which I thought seemed quite Great Gatsby-Esque. With modern wooden exteriors and interiors, rooms are warm and spacious and there are a couple of family suites. The cocktail bar offers a variety of drinks and the 20,000 books lining the bookshelf are there to be read. Moreover, unwind in the sitting room with a cocktail or have a treatment in the Nuxe Spa. There are also private shuttles to lifts and you can get the public shuttle back.

Where to eat?

There is good reason why La Ferme restaurant gets booked months in advance, so I highly recommend booking this in advance. A fabulous, cosy restaurant by the piste, they serve gourmet Savoyarde dishes. It’s worth visiting for either lunch or dinner.

We also dined at the hotel’s restaurant Le Coeur, where we had a delicious meal of scallops and the smoked duck was sublime. And, not to forget the fabulous cheese cave!

My highlights

It’s hard to decide between a fantastic lunch at La Ferme where we had amazing food, service, and ambiance, or the indulgent massage at the Au Coeur du Village – that was a real treat. In addition, the Cristal Spa was really beautifully done and had everything you’d need: a hammam, crystal grotto, massage rooms, and a large indoor swimming pool.
